RISC OS Webring breakaway

Posted by Richard Goodwin on 10:13, 14/2/2001 | ,

Paul Vigay (aka '"The" Paul Vigay' after how he's usually greeted at shows) has decided that he's had enough of Yahoo after their recent takeover of the Webrings systems. It required everyone to create a Yahoo account just to join a webring, and log in every time he wanted to maintain his own ring. So, budding Perl programmer that he is, he decided to write his own.

An email has gone out to all existing members of the RISC OS webring with the necessary changes to move over to the new service, but he hopes that many new members will be attracted. After getting away from the Yahoo restrictions that might have appeared daunting to prospective new members, plus making the dedicated ring software faster and easier to update than even the original Webrings, now might be the time to join up and promote your site - and RISC OS at the same time!
