News round up

I've been getting in to trouble for being lazy, and not posting news, so here goes...

Wakefield Charity Stall
The premier RISC OS show is now accepting Risc PCs and A7000(+)s for their charity stall. This is contrary to a previous announcement. The change is the "result of an offer from a supplier attending the show" who will take any unsold computers after the show.

32bit Select
Our buddies over at the 'pad have reported that a 32bit RISC OS is near, and RISC OS (Developments) Ltd will be accepting subscriptions in May.

archivemagArchive Magazine
The May edition of Archive should have arrived on peoples door mats. The latest issue contains a continuation of the Virtual RPC guide, and a guide to Hotlists in RISC OS browsers. To find out more, subscribe.

The Acorn^H^H^H^H^HRISC OS Cybervillage
The Acorn Cybervillage is changing its name to The RISC OS Cybervillage in order to be less like the Tories[1]. The site design and content is getting subtle changes too.

Why do people find it necessary to inject their political prejudices into supposedly factual news items?

Few things irritate me more than this. Such comments show their writers not only to lack respect for the views of others (not to mention an over-confidence that their own opinions will be accepted as inarguably correct by any right-thinking individual), but also to lack the objectivity to understand which fora are suitable for political debate and which are not. Let's keep political prejudices out of RISC OS news stories, pleaase.

There's also a wrong "it's" in the same sentence. If unsure, refer to DTP Principles!

(Sorry, Andrew - nothing personal. I just dislike seeing news items being made to look amateurish by the inappropriate inclusion of such comments, and couldn't resist saying something.)

Marvellous a political point in Iconbar News right in the middle of an election campaign. I'll see what Rich G. thinks about this and then make a decision whether to move permanently and solely to Drobe news.

Come on, it's just a joke.

I for one will be very glad when the election is over.

I was probably having a bad day. ;-) But I'm already fed up to the back teeth with wall-to-wall politics everywhere I look, so it was the last thing I wanted to see interrupting my RISC OS viewing.

Just one of my pet soap-boxes. No offense intended. I'll be glad when the election's over, too...

I was going to say that in the interest of fairness we should slag off all the other parties in forthcoming news articles, but maybe not now ;)

It was solely intended as a joke, and as far as my view goes, any of the main political parties could be substituted into that sentence.

Well this is doubley-relevant... one of the things I do now I don't update acorn-gaming.org.uk anymore is how2vote.co.uk - so pop over to www.how2vote.co.uk and you can find out how to vote free of any bias! :)

Thanks. Did a live interview on BBC Radio 5 at the weekend, and have to be up for one at 7:10am on BBC Radio Norfolk tomorrow (Friday) and then in the studio at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire for another at 8:35am. :) (and I hate getting out of bed early!)
