Letters: Real simulation games

Posted by Tim Fountain on 00:00, 30/10/2000 | , ,

Are there any real life simulators currently available or being developed for RISC OS? I'd be interested in seeing games like Capitalism, Transport Tycoon, Civilization, Colonization or games of that kind. I'm a bit tired of the endless discussion of wether we'll get Quake 2, 3 or whatever. I'm not interested in 3D shoot'em ups and platformers are not exactly my cup of tea.

Tek from Artex is being developed, which is a Command and Conquer sort of game, and not too long ago a new game was mentioned on Gareth Moore's 32 bit Acorn Gaming, I think called Darkwood, which is going to be like Civilization, hopefully. The only game of this kind currently available is Dune< 2 but is getting a bit old now.

Are you (Gordon Munro) referring to Darklands? I'm a bit afraid that this looks like yet another "will-not-be-finished" game. I do hope it will be released though. The graphics seem a bit basic but that's not exactly what I'm looking for anyway. If the gameplay is good - I'll buy it (but only if I'll be able to download a demo beforehand)

Currently there seems to be no game of the sorts I was looking for. C&C clones aren't exactly the type of "real-life simulators" I was looking for. Why can that be? The Civilization type of games has been very successful on other platforms. I know they're probably pretty tough to develope but not even a basic one has been released.

On second thought though, would Exodus get somewhere close?
